NPT Male Swivel

NPT (National Pipe Thread) fittings the most popular for pressure calibration systems in the U.S. and Canada. NPT male adapters have a taper thread that wedges into the female NPT adapter. They seal due to the “out of roundness principle” which means that the male stretches the female fitting until there is so much force that the connection can hold pressure. The taper on NPT threads allows them to form a seal when torqued as the flanks of the threads compress against each other, as opposed to parallel/straight thread fittings or compression fittings in which the threads merely hold the pieces together and do not provide the seal. The various types of pipe threads are designed for use both with and without thread sealants, as particular applications demand.
